This chapter highlights the significance of social environments as key determinants of health and well-being, with social capital playing a central role. Social capital refers to the resources available to individuals through their social networks and has been identified as a primary social determinant of health. Research indicates a positive relationship between social capital and health, as it is closely tied to social connectedness and support. The chapter explores how social capital enhances social connections and fosters social support, leading to greater social inclusion or exclusion. Additionally, it discusses theoretical frameworks surrounding social capital, social connectedness, and social support, and examines their impact on health, well-being, and social inclusion.
