dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE The reconstruction of large skeletal defects presents significant challenges for orthopedic surgeons, particularly in cases involving chronic skeletal defects where the surrounding anatomical structures may differ considerably from their original state. This complexity necessitates innovative approaches to effectively manage such cases. CASE PRESENTATION A 54-year-old male patient presented with a large skeletal defect following surgery for osteomyelitis. The selected treatment for this case involved reconstruction with a total humerus megaprosthesis. The prosthesis was custom-designed to include a reversed shoulder joint and a total elbow joint, both of which were 3D printed based on CT scan imaging. CLINICAL DISCUSSION A short-term follow-up at six months post-surgery indicated significant improvements in the patient's arm functionality and satisfaction regarding expectations. CONCLUSION Total humerus megaprosthesis joint replacement may serve as a promising option for addressing chronic humeral defects, offering a tailored solution to enhance patient outcomes. | en_US |
