Director of Vinmec Institute for Applied Science and Regenerative Medicine (VIASRM) Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung graduated from National Economics University and Hanoi University of Science & Technology. He got a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Immunology from the Borstel Research Center in Borstel, Germany in 2010. Before coming to work at Vinmec in 2018, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC) in Strasbourg and Center for Pathophysiology of Toulouse Purpan (CPTP), France. His studied focus on immune signaling pathways (published in Blood, EMBO J, and Plos. Pathogens), autoimmune disease (published in PNAS, J. Exp. Med, J. Autoimmune.) and human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC). He is an invited lecturer at Hanoi University of Science & Technology (HUST) and VNU University of Science. In addition, he is an initiator, coordinator, and principal translator of the Harvey Lodish’s Molecular cell biology textbook into Vietnamese, an editor of a Vietnam Biotechnology website, and a co-founder and former president of The Vietnamese Students’ Association in Strasbourg.

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles for osteoarthritis treatment: Extracellular matrix protection, chondrocyte and osteocyte physiology, pain and inflammation management
(2021-11)Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative disease that can lead to persistent pain and motion restriction. In the last decade, stem cells, particularly mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), have been explored as a potential ... -
Effects of Extracellular Vesicles Secreted by TGFβ-Stimulated Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Skin Fibroblasts by Promoting Fibroblast Migration and ECM Protein Production
(2022-08)Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) have been illustrated for their roles in immunological modulation and tissue regeneration through the secretome. Additionally, culture conditions can trigger the ... -
Differential Cytotoxicity of Curcumin-Loaded Micelles on Human Tumor and Stromal Cells
(2022-10)Although curcumin in the form of nanoparticles has been demonstrated as a potential anti-tumor compound, the impact of curcumin and nanocurcumin in vitro on normal cells and in vivo in animal models is largely unknown. ... -
Detection of sFas, sCD137, and IL-27 Cytokines as Potential Biomarkers for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Diagnosis
(2023)Purpose: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a prevalent type of liver cancer, is mainly diagnosed in the advanced stage, leading to a high mortality rate. Recent advances have identified peripheral cytokines as a potential ... -
Adoptive NK cell therapy - a beacon of hope in multiple myeloma treatment
(2023)Major advances in the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) have been achieved by effective new agents such as proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulatory drugs, or monoclonal antibodies. Despite significant progress, MM remains ... -
A study of genetic variants associated with skin traits in the Vietnamese population
(2024-01-11)Background: Most skin-related traits have been studied in Caucasian genetic backgrounds. A comprehensive study on skin-associated genetic effects on underrepresented populations such as Vietnam is needed to fill the gaps ... -
Outcomes of bone marrow-derived mononuclear cell transplantation for patients in persistent vegetative state after drowning: Report of five cases
(2020-09)Aim: Anoxic brain injury (ABI) due to non-fatal drowning may cause persistent vegetative state (VS) that is currently incurable. The aim of this paper is to present the safety and feasibility of autologous bone marrow-derived ... -
Generation of an erythroid progenitor-derived iPSC line, VRISGi002-A, from a healthy 27-year-old Vietnamese donor under a feeder-free system
(2022-05-29)We have established the footprint-free Vietnamese human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) line, VRISGi002-A, from CD71 + CD235a + erythroid progenitor cells (EPCs) of a 27-year-old healthy donor. The EPCs were enriched ... -
Establishment of a Vietnamese ethnicity induced pluripotent stem cell line (VRISGi001-A) from umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells under a feeder-free system
(2021-04-05)VRISGi001-A, from cord-blood derived CD34 + hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) of a 35 year old healthy woman under cGMP-compliant process. For the hiPSC induction, three Sendai virus vectors carrying four reprogramming factors ... -
and keratinocytes belongs to UCMSC-derived exosomes. Data from this study indicated that BMMSCs and UCMSCs under clinical condition secreted exosomes are promising to develop into therapeutic products for wound healing treatment.
(2020-06-24)Exosomes are nano-scale and closed membrane vesicles which are promising for therapeutic applications due to exosome-enclosed therapeutic molecules such as DNA, small RNAs, proteins, and lipids. Recently, it has been ... -
